Springfield, Ill. — The Springfield Airport Authority is proud to announce that Springfield’s Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport (SPI) has been named the winner of the American Airlines 2nd Quarter 2025 Customer Cup Award, marking the first time the SPI team has earned this prestigious honor.

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS - Effective October 7th, Springfield area air travelers will enjoy a more convenient flight schedule as American Airlines reinstates the popular early morning departure from SPI. The enhanced flight schedule gives passengers earlier access to American Airlines’ hub at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), making it easier to connect to hundreds of popular destinations across the country and around the world. The updated schedule is now available in the reservation system and open for booking

U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today announced $942,571 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Authority for Springfield’s Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport to be used for runway rehabilitation.

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS…Senator Doris Turner has secured $4.5 million in capital project funding in the State of Illinois’ 2026 Budget which was signed by the Governor earlier this week. These funds are dedicated to airport capital improvements including aircraft maintenance and flight training facility development. The Springfield Airport Authority has made significant investments throughout the entire 2,400+ acre complex with an aggressive and robust capital improvement program during this past decade. The Authority has been preserving and modernizing airfield and landside infrastructure and has completed substantial renovations and upgrades to its corporate and general aviation facilities, airport public safety facilities and the main passenger terminal complex.

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS…The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the Springfield Airport Authority by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2024 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, or ACFR. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government entity and its management.
