We Fly SPI First Pledge

Whereas, it is understood that viable transportation services, assets, and resources are critical to support our community's strategic priorities and goals to pursue economic growth and to improve the overall quality of life for those who call Springfield and Sangamon County home; and,

Whereas, the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport (SPI) is an important economic asset for our community and is worthy of local support as our region competes for jobs and economic growth in the global marketplace; and,

Whereas, significant changes have occurred in the airline industry which have negatively impacted and have created numerous challenges for small communities seeking to recruit, sustain, and grow commercial air transportation services; and,

Whereas, we have a vested interest in the success of the commercial air service offerings at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport (SPI), and we understand local support is needed to increase passenger traffic, which in turn will support the collective effort to sustain current service levels and pursue expanded services when opportunities become available; and,

Whereas, we believe it is in the best interest of the community to remain committed to using the commercial air services offered at SPI given the competitive pressures in the marketplace and realizing there are few airlines currently available to fly routes to regional markets.

Now, Therefore We Pledge, to always first explore the option of utilizing the commercial airline services offered at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport (SPI); and, that we will consider all other economic factors such as round trip mileage, limousine services, overnight parking fees, extra meals, additional hotel stays, the safety and security of our employees and associates, and the added time and salary costs consumed travelling to an alternative airport; and further, we pledge to adopt travel guidance for our employees to support our commitment to Fly SPI First.
